Hello 2012 – we’re back…

So after a week closed after the holidays and a few days to get readjusted to “shop-life” – we’re happy to report we are back at full-force and regular hours – Tuesday – Saturday 10am-6pm. We are in the midst of doing some inventory and general clean up and preparing to do a bunch of new orders. We hope everyone had a great holiday and we look forward to helping you to create and be inspired in this glorious new year.

Many thanks to our customers and friends for a fantastic holiday season. We are now 6 years into this adventure and we still feel excited and energized with the possibilities in the coming year.

Just a heads up – we will be closed from Dec. 25th to Jan. 3rd and returning to regular shop hours starting Wednesday Jan. 4th. We look forward to seeing you in 2012.

Our Holiday Hours leading up to Xmas

For the last week leading up to Christmas – Mixed Media will be open the following hours:

Sunday Dec. 18: 12noon – 4pm

Monday – Thursday 10am-6pm

Friday Dec. 23: 10am-7pm

Saturday Dec. 24 – Christmas Eve: 10am – 4pm

We will be closed from Dec. 25 to Jan. 3rd and reopening for regular hours on Wednesday, Jan. 4th. Thank you for supporting our local business and happy holidays from our family to yours!

One of the more popular items in the shop, not just this holiday season but over the last year, has to be the fantastic line of CBC merch from the good folks at Red Canoe. We just got word more stock is coming our way early next week – just in time for Xmas. I am also very aware a big-box corporate goliath has decided to carry this bag (we had it first!) and would like to encourage you to buy this item locally. The Good Doctor by Vince Agro

This local account of growing up Italian in our neighbourhood of James North is now in stock at the store. Vince Agro’s The Good Doctor is described as “a compelling tale filled with vibrant characters, striking depictions of Hamilton as a thriving city and intriguing historical details”. Read the recent Spec article and also hear Vince read from the book this weekend at the Artword Artbar as part of Charly Chiarelli’s “Cu’Fu?” presentation.

Gift Registry and Holiday Draw

We are now ready to accept anyone who wants to enter our gift registry program for the holidays and beyond. Fun way to make it easy for those you love to pick out the things you dig in our shop. You get to walk around the shop with a clipboard and a pen and write down the items you’d like to see under the tree this year. We’re joining a few other local shops, White Elephant and Little Bird, who’ve also decided this year to do a gift registry.

For the month of December – Mixed Media will be open the following hours:

Sunday Dec. 4, 11 & 18: 12noon – 4pm

Monday – Thursday 10am-6pm

Fridays 10am-7pm (we’ll be open until 11pm or later on Dec. 9 for the James North Art Crawl)

Saturdays 10am-6pm (except on Christmas Eve when we close at 4pm)

Industrial Re-Evolution

Hamilton Museum of Steam and Technology is inviting the public to the opening of the new exhibition “Industrial Re-Evolution” on Friday, Oct. 28 at 7pm.

Industrial Re-evolution is an exhibit focused on the connections between Art and Industry. Hamilton has a long history of industrial development which has shaped us into the community we are today. Artists (including our friends Paul Elia, Gordon Leverton, Steve Mazza and Jeff Tessier) whose work is inspired by local industry current or past will display their Film, Photography, Textiles, Paintings, Drawings and Sculpture.

The opening night event also includes a Fashion show by Rev Wear Artist Collective and Green Dress Designs – Upcycled Streetwear Fashions starting at 8pm.

Industrial Re-Evolution continues to June 24, 2012.

Jody Joseph at Gallery on the Bay

One of our many amazing local artists, Jody Joseph has a fantastic exhibition of oil paintings called ‘Dundas by Knife’ on now at the Gallery on the Bay. Jody had this to say about her newest collection of works: “All of the paintings in this show were made in Dundas, my beautiful and artful hometown. Perhaps you saw me painting outside this past summer, on Dundas’ streets, laneways, church lawns and front yards (in some back yards too!).” We are happy to say Jody used our fantastic line of Classico oil paints from Maimeri to create her beautiful pieces. The show continues to November 13. We hope you can check it out!
